In 2017, the Merrill-Cazier Library at Utah State University undertook a project to barcode the entirety of the Special Collections & Archives. The goals of this initiative was to start tracking reading room circulations at the item level, and time stamping circulations at the point of contact.  There was also a desire to reap more complete data relating to patrons and collections, in order to better understand how to advocate and market collections, and to increase overall circulation.
