Libraries build trust by providing high quality services which start with hiring and training the best people. The workshop will be focused on the supervision and management of entry-level and student employees. It will be broken down in three sections: hiring, training, and mentoring. For each section, the presenters will discuss tools, literature on the topic, and personal experience. The audience will participate in discussion and draft materials tailored to their supervisory role.

  • Objective 1 The audience will learn the fundamentals of hiring, how to articulate the core values of a job and interview for those values.
  • Objective 2 They will learn how to organize training for the job so that new hires feel empowered instead of overwhelmed.
  • Objective 3 They will learn how to better mentor their employees on job related skills that will help employees in their current position and in their career goals.
